Speak Only What Edifies
Do you have something to say to your spouse; some message you've genuinely got to get across? Try to remember to craft that communication so that it "may give grace to the hearer" Ephesians 4:29. In other words, just because you have a thought or feeling doesn't necessarily mean that it should be spoken aloud. Take a moment to consider whether what you have to say is going to help your spouse and improve the situation. Will it build up in a positive way and breathe life into your marriage? Or is it potentially destructive, hurtful or negative? If so, then it might be better to just head off those comments, taking them captive before they can damage, and replacing them with uplifting, positive, Christlike words.
Send that edifying message. Do what Jesus did. Speak life.
